George's Street Arcade. The markets building originally opened its doors in 1881 after several years in construction. The buildings were designed by Richard and William Mawson, brothers from Bradford, England and were built by the firm of John Hall Thorp from Leeds. It’s one of the Dublin’s finest examples Gothic influenced, Victorian style architecture
Just over ten years after the Arcade opened, it was engulfed in flame and was destroyed in 1892, by 1894 the markets were ready to reopen after an expensive reconstruction. The market has been improved and conserved several times since then first in 1970 and again in the 1990s
